This opera had the most builds for my team to tackle, and a handful of alterations. Our team was in charge of two principles, Deanna Breiwick as Adele and Robert Mellon as Frank, and four chorus members: Jouelle Roberson, Kimberly Stanish, and Cole Bellamy, Samuel Krausz. The most notable projects I aided in were Adele's green dress & red corset, and the leopard print chorus dress & coat. For the first two weeks it was just me and my draper, Elizabeth, prepping and cutting out fabric as drapers & first hands began a couple weeks before stitchers arrived. At first I was anxious, this being my first position as a first hand, but I quickly felt acquainted with my position as it was very similar to roles I've filled in my time being costume shop work-study at Loyola University.
Points in which I was challenged:
Becoming accustomed to my draper's process and style of communication.
Listening and not being afraid to ask question or help aided in learning to work with my draper Elizabeth; by the end of the season, we could function without much said as I understood what they needed based on what they handed me.
Pattern tracing onto slippery satin's on a table I couldn't pin on due to space restrictions early in season.
I used pattern weights and any weighed tools at my disposal to ensure straight of grain remained consistent through each piece.
