Practices: Commercial Patterning
Style/Era: ~2000s - 2010s
This was an enjoyable project for me to take on as I had been most comfortable constructing more form fitting pants and these harem pants required far more fabric to live within them. Following a commercial pattern, I was a bit confused at how the pieces fit together as each section seemed so large in comparison to how I thought it should fit the body, most notably was the giant rectangle that would serve as the center of the pants.
Points in which I was challenged:
Gathering the fashion fabric and lining together while maintaining straight vertical lines down the pants.
The gathering of the fabric seemed a lot more daunting but after beginning to stitch it together, it became easier as I understood how to pin out my gathering stitches to align with the fabric and lining to serve how I wanted the lines of the gathers to lay.
