Practices: Sleeve Gathering

Style/Era: ~2000s - 2010s

This was project a project where I aided in creating the mockup for a gown that was draped and needed extra hands to take over while other projects were given priority. My ability to cut and stitch pieces together was favorable to quickly tackle this project and continue the flow of the workload on schedule. The process was to mark and cut out two large dress-skirt pieces, two sleeves, two cuffs, and a collar.

Points in which I was challenged:

• The sleeve cuff gathering and positioning.

  • Gathering in the sleeves proved a little tricky due to the large amount of thicker fabric going into the seam of the smaller cuff, but I was able to successfully gather it by pinning it a little more than usual to ensure it stayed put where I wanted to stitch it.
